Matariki
Over the past two weeks, Room 7 has been learning about Matariki and the MΔori New Year.
We have been learning the MΔori names of the seven stars in the cluster, the traditional foods to harvest around this time of year and where to find the cluster of stars in the dawn sky.
Room 7 has also been creating some art.

Predicting While Reading
This week in Room 7 we have been looking at and using predicting while reading. We have learned that predicting before we read helps to activate our prior knowledge, and predicting throughout helps us to have a better understanding of the story or article.

Decimals and Maths
In Maths this week Room 7 have been looking at and learning about simple decimals and how they relate to fractions.
They have learned that a whole number is made up of ten tenths and that half (1/2) of 1 written as a decimal is .5
Ask your child about their learning.
Here are some images of our learning...

Green Week
This week in Room 7 we are looking at recycling. What can be recycled, what can't and what happens to our rubbish in New Zealand.
As Owairaka is an Enviro School, we want to make sure that we are doing all that we can to ensure that we are recycling the right things in the right places.
We are running a class competition to design a label for each of our 5 rubbish bins which clearly states what rubbish can go in it.
Here are just a few of the students' entries...
